DIRECTIVE INTERN

December 16, 2016 2:32PM
Hey Everyone, just wanted to let you all know that I have been interning with a wonderful business and been learning a lot from a great supervisor for the past 3 in the half months. I am interning at Directive, a handcrafted leather bag business that sells awesome totes, clutches, wallets, and so much more. I started an Instagram page where you can follow what I do on a weekly basis at Directive and see the behind the scenes of how everything is made. Follow me on Instagram @bts.directive and while your at it follow the official Directive Instagram page @directivemade

(@bts.directive instagram feed)

The reason I started this internship is to fulfill credits to graduate, but also because I have always wanted to work with leather and I always wanted to know how to make a leather bag. I've always loved the look of leather and have incorporated it into some of my previous designs, but never really learn the correct way of designing with leather. So, Directive was the perfect place to get hands on work with leather and learn leather techniques.

The person behind Directive is my super layback supervisor, Jess Goehner. Jess is the founder and creator of Directive and has been in business since 2012. She is a one woman team, which I super respect and admire her dedication. I get to work one on one with Jess and get to reflect on her knowledge of leather making and business skills. I've learn everything from stamping to riveting and making leather straps to finishing edges. One thing I enjoy, but am also terrified of is working on the industrial sewing machine. Been wanting to use an industrial for a long time and finally got a chance to use and practice on one. Very scary at first with the sensitivity and speed of the presser foot, but I am a lot more comfortable with it now. My internship has been going well and I just finished my last day there. I am now in the works of creating my own leather bag and will definitely show you guys some process photos of my bag.

Those are just some pictures of what my bag will look like. The bag that is pink is just a simple mock-up of the bag with small white paper butterflies. My actual bag will be made out of black leather and will be covered with the little leather butterflies that I cut out. My overall bag design is a small cross body pouch bag with a front flap covered in butterflies.  I'm excited to finish it and will sure to post my final product in the near future. Hope you guys enjoyed this post and look forward to seeing more, have an great day and God Bless!

SPRING SUNDAY LOOKBOOK 2016

May 12, 2016 12:08AM

Hey Guys, this is my Spring Sunday Lookbook to give you guys some inspiration of what you can wear to church. I know every church is different, but at my church we dress semi-formal. Things to note when deciding on an outfit is of course to dress modestly. Being aware of skirt lengths and neckline depths are two key things to consider. If you think it's too short or too low, then it probably is. Ways to avoid that problem is wearing tights and a tank top underneath. I originally had four outfits, but lost the footage to the last outfit, but all threes outfits in my video are all modest and still trendy. Hope you enjoy my video below and give it a like and subscribe if you want to see more!

OUTFIT ONE: MONOCHROME

This is a more boyish look, for those girls who don't want to dress up too much, but still want to look good. You can wear any basic tee and skinny jean paired with a sleeveless blazer and dressy flats for an effortless comfortable look.

T-shirt: Black Basic Tee

OUTFIT TWO: BRIGHT BLUE

This look is a bit more girly and funky with the socks and oxford combo. I love wearing blacks and whites, then wearing one pop of color. This skirt has a beautiful blue hue and simple flirty silhouette. The boyfriend blazer adds a touch of masculinity, but makes the outfit just the right amount of dressy. As you guys can tell, I love wearing funky socks because it adds personality and uniqueness to any outfit.

T-shirt: White Basic Tee

OUTFIT THREE: FEMININE FLORALS

This outfit is definitely the most dressy and girly. The bright colors of the floral scream spring and summer. The silhouette is super basic, but the puff on the sleeve cap adds a little more interest to make the outfit a little bit more girly. Since the dress is so bold with the color and print, it's always nice to stay simple with accessories like these black single strap heels.

Dress: Floral Dress
Shoes: Black Strap Heel

I really hope you guys enjoyed my Spring Sunday Lookbook and look forward to my future post. Let me know what outfit was your favorite or what you wear on Sundays? Until next time, God Bless!

FINDING THE PERFECT DRESS

December 30, 2015 12:37AM

Finding dresses can be any girls worst nightmare. Where do I look? What looks good on me? Is it in my budget? Dress shopping can be stressful and we tend to wait late minute to go shop. I was approached by sweetywedding.com to do a blog post about their dresses on their site and said why not. Before I begin, I want to state that I have never purchase from them, but think they have a wonderful dresses.  Sweet Wedding is an online dress shop that sell a variety of dresses from wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses and other special occasion dresses. They make it easy and stress-free by providing a wide range of styles, colors, sizes, and fabrications. Plus, their dresses are super affordable and give you the option to do custom sizing. I'm going to post some of my favorite dresses from their site, giving you guys an idea of what they have.

WEDDING DRESSES

WEDDING DRESS ONE: TRADITIONAL LACE BALL GOWN

If you're a traditional gal, then I would recommend this dress because of the iconic sweetheart neckline, beautiful lace and waist sliming silhouette. I'm also loving the scalloped lace hem to add that extra attention to detail. This would be the perfect dress for a bride who loves the fairytale endings. I could also see this dress paired with a long veil trimmed with lace. Instead of the bow sash, I would wear it with an embellished ribbon sash to add just a touch of sparkle.

WEDDING DRESS TWO: HIGH-NECK MERMAID

My favorite part of this dress has got to be the beautiful lace bodice and curve defining silhouette. I could definitely me myself in this dress. (I'm like getting really excited writing about this dress because I'm loving it.) This dress has the perfect amount of modesty and elegance. This dress really elongates the figure and also slims the figure. The back detailing of the placement of the lace and the buttons look gorgeous. Another, detail that I love is the way the top of the skirt wraps around to to one side and draws the eyes to the curves of the body.

WEDDING DRESS THREE: SIMPLE TRUMPET

This dress is very similar to the last one, but has a whole new feel. This dress would be perfect for a bride looking for a simple yet sophisticated look. The armhole princess seam gives the dress a very nice shape to the body and the fabric adds a very natural drape to the body as well. The simplicity of this dress also gives it a very crisp modern feel. The neckline also is very traditional and doesn't reveal too much skin. The sleeves and embellished waist adds just the right amount of detail and interest.

WEDDING DRESS FOUR: ELEGANT A-LINE

This dress is probably one of my other favorites because I love the cap sleeves and waist slimming silhouette. I like how this dress is still pretty modest, but still has the sexy appeal with the collarbone and back bones being exposed. The fullness of the skirt adds a girly touch that reminds me of how I would imagine myself on my wedding day when I was a little girl. This dress really showcases an elegant and fun loving bride.

WEDDING DRESS FIVE: STRAPLESS LACE A-LINE

This dress is beautiful because of all the mixed design elements. With the sweetheart neckline, flowing down lace, full skirt bottom and trumpet/a-line silhouette. This dress just has a great mixed of traditional elements and gives off a modern twist to the traditional wedding dress. I could see this dress paired with an embellished waist sash and a long veil.

I hope you guys liked the wedding dresses I picked out from sweetywedding and thought I would also included some mother of the bride dresses, flower girl dresses, and bridesmaids/ prom dresses below. They have a wonderful collection of dresses with a huge selection of different colors, sizes, and affordable prices. I would love for you guys to check them out and tell me which wedding dress was your favorite.

HAPPY NEW YEAR: 2016

January 1, 2016 11:23PM

Hey Everyone, I can't believe how fast 2015 went by and feel like I'm getting so much older. I hope you guys had a wonderful and blissful 2015 as much as I did. I'm so thankful for all the years I've been blessed with, both good and bad. 2015 was definitely a good year of me. Looking back, I actually did a lot and got a lot of things check off my list of moving on in life. (I don't literally have a list. It's more of a mental list.)

Reflection Time:

I did a lot with my school and got really involved with the fashion movement in my community. Being able to go to SALT in the summer and going to a multitude of camping trips. Making many new friends and enjoying old friends. Got my driver's license finally!!! Having the opportunity to lead and serve in my church's Care Group Ministry. One of the things I'm most proud of  is being able to launch this blog and my other social media sites. It's been something I have been thinking of doing for years and I'm super happy to finally have it up and running. There's just so much things that happened in 2015 and I'm hoping the best for 2016.

This was just a short wrap up post of 2015 and want to give you guys the opportunity to reflect on 2015 and tell me your highlights of the year and what you are looking forward to most for 2016. Again, Happy New Year and God Bless!
